Rev. Judi Horgan to be installed…
Judi and her family were very active at BPC prior to their move to Arizona. Judi’s journey has since led her to accept a call as pastor in the United Church of Christ. She has begun serving in two small churches in Vermont’s North East Kingdom: East Burke and Lyndonville Congregational churches. An installation celebration will take place on Sunday, June 7, 4:00 p.m. Rev. MacDonald has gladly accepted the invitation to preach for this service; some BPC members plan to attend. See Rod for more information.
Spring Cleanup
The Trustees are sponsoring our annual spring cleanup on Saturday, June 6, 9:00-1:00 p.m.. Please come on out, enjoy the fresh air, and help us put everything outside in shape for summer. Exciting events include leaf raking, gutter cleaning, sweeping, mowing and trimming. Please bring your own lawn tools, and don’t forget your gloves. Electric blowers and very long extension cords are especially helpful. The church does have its own supply of lawn tools. So we can put everyone to work. Bring the family. In case of rain, spring cleanup will be postponed to the Saturday, June 20, 2009.
Deacons Corner
Volunteers are needed to pick up people who need rides to church. Most live close to the church. There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board in Fellowship Hall.
The Dwelling Place meals are now planned to serve 40. More volunteers for food and serving would be very helpful.
Remember the June 13th (2009) Yard Sale while doing spring cleaning. The profits will be divided with 10% going to People Helping People, $200 for a starter fund for a defibrillator for the church, and the remainder to help with the church budget.
The Church World Service Tools and Blankets campaign will run until Father’s Day. Please support this badly needed project.
Please note: The location for the July 7th blood drive has been changed to the Hilton Garden Inn on Wheeler Road in Burlington. The time is still 1:30 to 7:00 pm.
Check out the new microwave in the church kitchen.
Church School Recognition Sunday Picnic
Sunday, June 14
On Sunday, June 14th, we will have the opportunity to recognize the wonderful teacher volunteers in our Christian Education program. The service will be family-friendly with no formal Sunday School classes so that the teachers and children can participate in the service which will be led primarily by our Sunday school classes.
Following the service, CE Committee will be hosting a picnic in honor of our teachers who are the backbone of our Christian Education program. Hotdogs, hamburgers and buns will be provided, as well as acting as chefs for the event, but we are asking for donations in the tradition of a potluck luncheon from the congregation at large. There will be a sign up sheet posted at the beginning of June on the bulletin board in fellowship hall during coffee hour if you would like to contribute something to the event. Your donation is greatly appreciated!
Dot and Fran Team Report
It didn’t start raining until we were through with the walk and on our way home and Dave Anthony felt well enough to join us, so it was a good day. Shirley Thornton made lots of new friends in her role as a volunteer and Dave, Jane Lothian, Sally Morrison and Linda Roscoe did the walking.
As in previous years, Sally was the chief fundraiser (Yeah, Sally!). Thanks to all who contributed we raised $2,480 to fund research and services to folks who have MS. Without BPC support, we couldn’t have done this, so THANKS, CHURCH FAMILY!!
Scholarship Fund for Amina Meho
Responding to inquiries by some folks who made gifts in memory of Lynda Graham-Meho, the church has set up a scholarship fund for Lynda’s daughter, Amina. The fund currently has $2,000 in seed money from memorial contributions. The goal is to raise a total of $4,000 which Amina can use toward college expenses.
Amina will turn 18 years old this May and graduate from Burlington High School in June. Many of you know that Amina is a competitive swimmer. She will be attending the University of Massachusetts at Amherst this fall as a member of the swim team. Amina is excited about being at UMass for several reasons. First, she has not yet decided on a major and believes there will be many opportunities to try new things at a large school. Also, Amherst is roughly halfway between Burlington, MA, where her father and brother live, and Schenectady, NY where her grandmother and her uncle and his family live. Finally, Amina has met the swim coach and some of the other girls on the team, and thinks she will fit in well.
Gifts to the scholarship fund may be made by check to Burlington Presbyterian Church, with a memo that the funds are for Amina’s college fund. You may give a check to Candy McLaughlin, to Treasurer Jim Brunner, or put it in the offering plate on Sunday morning.
Hyannis Sprint Triathlon
On June 13th I will be participating in the Hyannis Sprint Triathlon to raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor of the 10 year old daughter of my close high school friends who has Hodgkin Lymphoma. This will be the third time I have participated in a Team in Training event for this organization and know the work they do to support research and to support the families of loved ones with blood related cancers is amazing.
If you would like to make a donation, please visit my website: http://pages.teamintraining.org/ma/HyannisT9/smcgilvrayrivet
or give me a check made out to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I also have Team in Training T-shirts available for $10.
Thank you!!!
Gifts for Music Lovers
Keys from our Old Organ!
Are you looking for a unique gift for someone? Why not get them an organ key! The keys from our previous organ are available for purchase, and proceeds of the sale of the keys will help defray part of the cost of purchasing the new Rogers organ. A single key is $25 or you can purchase a pair of keys (one black and one white) for $40. These historic organ keys make great conversation pieces and will remind you of the years of music at our church. Talk with Sean Pickett or Ken Dewar or any choir member if you are interested in supporting this musical mission.

There are a couple openings in the 3-day morning class and several places open for the 2-day afternoon class. Interested families should call registrar Linda Benson at 781-272-0081, extension 2 for more details.
Our dedicated core teachers are Director Patricia Rooney, and teachers Darlene Jollymore and Nancy Murphy. The new Board of Directors includes Chair Colette Greco, Registrar Linda Benson, Secretary Tara Goss, Treasurer Millie Wiegand, Director Pat Rooney, and members Michelle Brown, Christina Liu and Sue McGilvray-Rivet. See anyone on the board for information.
Occasionally we will share a few tidbits in Crossroads about this important community service which our church oversees. For now, as you leave Fellowship Hall on Sundays or after week night meetings, remember that there will be a group of toddlers there the next morning. Make sure that you dispose of your trash, lower the tables, raise the shades, pick up all personal possessions and leave the room ready for action.
And spread the word about registration. We appreciate your help.
