Lent – 2026
Lent is a season of prayer, fasting and self-examination, to prepare for celebrating the resurrection of the Lord at Easter. It is a period of 40 days — like the flood of Genesis and Jesus’ testing in the wilderness. (Sundays in Lent are not counted as every Lord’s Day is a celebration of the resurrection.)
Worship
Beginning in Lent, we are gathering once again in the sanctuary for “hybrid” in-person worship; Sunday services will be streamed online via Zoom. Our Ash Wednesday service is March 2 at 7:00 pm in the sanctuary; that service will not be streamed online.

Lent – 2022

The response to Lola should include the points that taking out a mortgage needs the approval of the congregation at a congregational meeting and written approval by the presbytery. The response to Max might include the responsibility of the session for setting a budget and the need to account for upkeep of the church (e.g., a roof). The response could also note the need for presbytery approval if a loan is needed for the roof. The response to Jane would need to note that a lease for more than five years requires presbytery approval. The response to Franco would include how a basketball league might fit into the mission of the church. It is possible that a comment might be made about the exceptions to this chapter provided in G-4.0208 that apply to certain congregations. This will require a careful reading of that citation.

Creations of Hope – Benefiting Haitian artisans

Creations of Hope sells cut metal artwork which they purchase directly from ~50 artisans in Croix des Bouquets, a town ~15 miles east of Port au Prince. The artisans are paid in full as soon as their products are finished. To create the unique cut metal artwork, Haitian artisans use whatever materials are available to them. For the iron artisans of Croix-des-Bouquets that usually means metal from recycled oil drums which is transformed into wall sculptures of everything from traditional Haitian mythological creatures to religious, landscapes, and children’s artwork.
Products: Painted & unpainted metal wall hangings
