In-Person Worship Resuming
On Sunday, September 19, 10:30 am, we are excited to welcome the community back into our worship space for the first time since March 2020! To protect members, friends, and guests during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we are adopting the following measures:
- Seating in the sanctuary has been marked to support social distancing; we ask that you sit next to only those in your household.
- Everyone will be required to wear a mask at all times inside the building, regardless of vaccination status; extra masks will be available at the door.
- Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the building.
- Coffee hour will be suspended for the time being.
- As with all other activities, if you feel unwell, please stay home and join the service over Zoom.
We realize that for some in our community, church is more accessible to them in their homes, and we welcome you to continue joining us on Zoom. We are planning to stream the service live over Zoom and share a recording of the service later.
As with anything new, this will involve some learning and adjustments as we get used to this hybrid worship format We we ask your patience, grace, and sense of humor in the process. Your feedback is welcomed and encouraged, both those joining us from home and those who are in the sanctuary, so that we know where to make improvements as we move forward.
We will also kick-off our Sunday School program year with some fun games and activities for our children and youth.
Sunday worship is streamed live via Zoom. We also gather by Zoom for a brief morning prayer service on Tuesdays. You’re welcome to join us using the links below.
Tuesday Morning Prayer is now adjourned; we will announce when it resumes.
You can view a recent worship service below; here are links to previous recordings.
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is responding to the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti the morning of August 14, 2021 resulting in the loss of >1,200 lives. PDA has long-standing partnerships in Haiti that enable us to come alongside communities affected by disaster in the immediate aftermath, as well as support communities planning multi-year, long-term recovery projects. Working with partners on the ground, PDA is responding to emergency needs such as WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene), emergency power generators, shelter, food, first aid and more.
As news comes in of the devastating effects of Hurricane Ida in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is organizing a response that will help sustain life and restore hope in the coming days. PDA has reached out to presbyteries in the path of the storm to offer support and stands ready to assist.
Burlington Food Pantry
We support the Burlington Food Pantry, with a monthly, contact-free, drive-by food collection in our parking lot the first Saturday of each month from 9-11 am. The next collection will be Saturday, October 3, from 9–11 am. Drive up to the front door, pop open your trunk, and volunteers will collect your donation. Please only donate NON-PERISHABLE items that are not expired or opened. The Food Pantry is currently in particular need of these items:
- Breakfast foods (cereal, oatmeal, pancake mix, pancake syrup)
- 2 lb bags of sugar
- Dish soap
Collection for Hygiene Kits
During our next regular monthly food collection for the Burlington Food Pantry (Saturday, October 3th, 9–11 am) we are also collecting personal hygiene items to be assembled into Gifts of the Heart Hygiene Kits for Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. The kits will be stockpiled by PDA to support future disaster responses. These items may be dropped off at the Food Drive for your convenience. Hygiene Kits include:
- 1 Hand towel (new)
- 1 Washcloth (new)
- 1 Large-toothed comb
- 1 Nail clipper (remove from package)
- 1 Bar of soap (bath size in wrapper)
- 1 Toothbrush (original packaging)
- 10 Band-Aids
Please do not add toothpaste to the Hygiene Kit. Toothpaste with an extended expiration date will be added to international Hygiene Kit shipments just before shipment.
You can donate a fully assembled kit, in a one-gallon zip-top plastic bag, or bring several of one or more of the items listed. We will organize the items and assemble the kits on a later date. We are also collecting personal care items for local organizations Women’s Lunch Place and Common Cathedral in Boston, including feminine hygiene products.
Jesus Calls Us – To Care for Creation
This 3-minute video encourages creation care, amidst climate change. We can make a difference and answer the call of Matthew 25 to care for the least of these.
Food Justice – In The News
Our congregation’s history of food justice ministry and advocacy was featured in the April newsletter of Presbyterians for Earth Care. Our relationship with Farmer Dave’s CSA was highlighted, along with the Burlington Food Pantry and other ways we have made food justice an important part of our work and witness in Burlington.
Racism victimizes many people but has a unique impact on African Americans. Given the forms anti-Black racism has taken historically and currently, we state clearly: GOD LOVES BLACKNESS. This truth has been denied by too many for too long. We align with love and not hate; we reject racism and proclaim that God delights in Black lives.
